Here are some links to useful Freeware tools (some are only free for personal/home use)

OpenOffice - text processing (more than just a word), spreadsheed tool, presentation tool, drawing tool and database tool - open document, many file import and export functions and direct PDF-creation from your documents..

Firefox - a browser, very good customizable, also works fine for Intranets with domain authorization (check out 'about:config' -> ntlm).
Useful addins: Adblock, NoScript, All-in-one-Gesture and Tidy HTML validator

Pegasus Mail - good email tool with Pop3 support of multiple email accounts. Supports selective download of mail - so you can delete the Spam already on the mail server without download

GnuPG - PGP encryption/decryption also available with Windows frontend

Foobar2000 - Mpeg2, MP3, OGG, AC3, DTS player with lot of plugins.

Amaya - the HTML editor to write those pages.

Notepad++ - a very customizable text editor. See below for more details ....

Truecrypt - keep your personal data secure - create an encrypted partition or file and mount as a new driveletter.

FileZilla - FTP client with multithreaded downloads.

PDFsearchGUI - ever tried to find text in multiple PDF files? PDFsearch will help you.

ID3-TagIt - manage and update the ID3 tags in your Mp3 collection

XnView - views many image files types and lossless manipulation of Jpeg pictures from your camera

AutoStitch - create panorama pictures with just a few clicks.

Notepad++Notepad++ This Editor is a 'must have seen'. Not only it supports several languages to highlight - it allows you to define your own language to parse ... I'm using this Editor to colorize the language 'SKILL' which is used in Cadence AllegroPCB and Cadence ConceptHDL.

Here are my language definition files including a sample Skill-code file to show the coloring and keyword recognizion:
Notepad++ needs to know the new user defined language for '.il'-files:

Notepad++ supports auto-completion when using this API file:
